History

It is impossible to talk about football without mentioning England, where association football was born. The first document about the sport dates back to 1409. England entered the field for the first time in 1872, in a friendly match against Scotland; this is considered to be the first match between national teams the history of association football. The rules, history, tournaments and the initial “kickoff” of the sport have all come from Great Britain and this is why Traffic follows closely the development of the most popular game in the world in the country where association football was created.

England’s success has been not only to develop football as an organized sport, but to win titles like in the the 1966 World Cup where the team was extremely successful, and received from her Majesty, the Queen, the Jules Rimet Cup. The many talents of Bobby Charlton, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters among others, were displayed and they made the difference in the final against Germany.

Furthermore, England has won several olympic medals, and has always produced great players who have been seen all over the world. Today, the English team includes in their roster great football players, such as David Beckham, Michael Owen, Frank Lampard, Steve Gerrard and Wayne Rooney. With plenty of first rate players and matches filled with emotion, they promise to attract the attention of football fanatics all around as they witness England’s fight to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.
